Withlacoochee River Fishing

The Withlacoochee River is 141 miles long and flows north from the Green Swamp into the Gulf of Mexico near Yankeetown. The Withlacoochee River joins Lake Tsala Apopka in eastern Citrus County and Lake Rousseau is an impoundment located 11 miles from the river mouth. Fishing on the Withlacoochee River is good for Largemouth Bass, Black Crappie, Bluegill, Bream, and Catfish. The Withlacoochee River offers offers good largemouth bass fishing on small black or purple worms fished near shoreline cover. The peak season is February-May. Redbreast sunfish can be caught near fallen trees and stumps from March-September on small spinners or crickets. Water levels often change and color is often dark during the rainy season and clear during low water periods.
